🌄 The Road North – Forth Bridges, Pitlochry & The Cairngorms
Depart Edinburgh or Stirling and travel north through the heart of Scotland, crossing the iconic Forth Bridges — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — before passing through the charming Highland town of Pitlochry for a comfort stop amid its Victorian spa town streets and the rushing waters of the River Tummel. Continue into the magnificent Cairngorm National Park — the largest national park in the United Kingdom, covering over 4,500 square kilometres of ancient mountain plateau, ancient Caledonian pine forest, and sweeping Highland glens — before pausing at the haunting ruins of Ruthven Barracks, a brooding 18th-century government fortress that played a pivotal role in the aftermath of the Jacobite Rising of 1745.
🥃 Strathisla Distillery, Keith – The Oldest Working Distillery in the Highlands
Begin your Speyside distillery experience at Strathisla — the oldest continuously working distillery in the Scottish Highlands, established in 1786 in the quiet town of Keith. With its twin pagoda rooflines, cobbled courtyard, and copper pot stills reflected in the crystal waters of the Isla, Strathisla is arguably the most beautiful and classically Scottish distillery in all of Speyside — a picture of whisky-making tradition that has barely changed in over two centuries.
This is the spiritual home of Chivas Regal — one of the world’s best-selling Scotch whiskies — and the first distillery ever owned by the Chivas Brothers. Discover how Strathisla’s richly sherried, honeyed single malt forms the heart and soul of every bottle of Chivas Regal produced, and enjoy a tasting that reveals the character of one of Speyside’s most distinctive and underappreciated drams.
🥃 Cardhu Distillery – The Speyside Home of Johnnie Walker
Continue along the Spey to Cardhu Distillery — one of Speyside’s most storied and characterful producers, with a founding history unlike any other in Scottish whisky. Established in 1811 by John Cumming, who had built a colourful reputation as a whisky smuggler before seizing the opportunity of the Excise Act of 1823 to go legitimate, Cardhu’s early success was driven in no small part by his wife Helen — who ran the distillery, sold whisky from the kitchen window, and is widely regarded as one of the first women to found a Scotch whisky business.
Cardhu was acquired by John Walker & Sons in 1893 and remains the Speyside home of Johnnie Walker to this day — the single malt at the heart of one of the world’s most recognised whisky brands. Enjoy a tasting of Cardhu’s elegant, light, and gently smoky expressions in a setting that perfectly encapsulates the Speyside spirit.
🥃 The Macallan Distillery – The Most Iconic Name in Single Malt
No Speyside pilgrimage is complete without The Macallan — the most celebrated and widely collected single malt whisky distillery in the world, and a name that commands reverence among connoisseurs from Tokyo to New York. The Macallan’s history dates back to 1824, but it is the extraordinary new visitor centre — opened in 2018 and winner of multiple architectural awards — that has transformed the estate into one of Scotland’s most remarkable destinations. Designed to rise organically from the rolling Speyside hills, the undulating grass-covered roof and flowing interior spaces of glass, timber, and steel create an experience as breathtaking as the whisky itself.
Enjoy an expertly guided tasting experience exploring The Macallan’s legendary range — from the classic Sherry Oak expressions to rare and exclusive releases that represent some of the most sought-after bottles in the world. An optional lunch at the Elchies Brasserie — serving inspired seasonal Scottish dishes matched to the Speyside setting — makes for a truly indulgent midday interlude.
Please note: The Macallan visitor experience is currently available on a restricted weekend basis. Your itinerary will be confirmed at the time of booking with the most current availability.
🥃 The Glenlivet Distillery – Scotland’s Largest Single Malt Producer (Optional)
For those who wish to add a fourth distillery to their Speyside day, The Glenlivet is an exceptional choice — founded in 1824 and today Scotland’s largest producer of single malt Scotch whisky, with a history as dramatic as the landscape that surrounds it. The Glenlivet was the first distillery to be legally licensed under the Excise Act of 1823, in a region that had been defined by illicit distilling for generations — making it both a pioneer and a lightning rod for controversy in its early years. Choose between a full 75-minute guided production tour and tasting, or a carefully curated whisky flight for a shorter but equally rewarding experience.
🍽️ Lunch on the Spey – Riverside Dining in the Heart of Whisky Country
Between distillery visits, enjoy lunch at one of Speyside’s charming riverside taverns or hotel restaurants — traditional Scottish hospitality in the valley that inspired a thousand drams. Local game, fresh fish, and hearty Highland fare served on the banks of the Spey, with the smell of peat and barley on the air. Johnny will recommend the best options on the day based on your preferences and the time available.

Depart from your accommodation in Edinburgh or Stirling for a day of genuine discovery in the whisky capital of the world. This tour is completely customisable — if you have a particular Speyside distillery you have always wanted to visit, Johnny will make it happen. The itinerary above represents our recommended selection, but your preferences are what shape the day.
Clients are collected directly from their accommodation and returned at the end of the day, ensuring a seamless door-to-door experience. As you travel between distilleries, Johnny shares his deep knowledge and genuine passion for Scotch whisky — the history, the craft, the rivalries, and the extraordinary characters who built one of Scotland’s greatest industries.
Enjoy a curated Scottish music playlist or your own selection throughout the day, and look forward to a couple of traditional Scottish sweet treats along the way — to sustain you between the drams.
